Etihad Airways has joined hands with Virgin Blue Group opening access to 44 new destinations in Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and Bali. From 1st October, the two groups together have planned to implement the loyalty program, reciprocal miles accrual, reciprocal redemption and tier recognition. This partnership will enable passengers to enjoy award winning service all the way, lounge access (with both groups) and limousine service too. From February 2011 onwards, 24 weekly services between Abu Dhabi and Australia will be operated. These include three frequencies per week from Brisbane, double-daily services from Sydney, and daily Melbourne-Abu Dhabi flights. In comparison to the pre-recession period, “The industry continues to recover faster than expected, but with sharp regional differences”, shared IATA Director General Giovanni Bisignani. He went on to say, “Europe is recovering at half the speed of Asia with passenger growth of 7.8 percent compared to the 15.5 percent growth in Asia-Pacific”. The People’s Republic of China has experienced the highest growth of demand for air travel last month.

Delta Airlines cuts fares for frequent fliers

  Delta Airlines has declared to waive-off redemption fees for its frequent-flying passengers making moves within 20 days of departure. The amendment announced this Thursday will cut fares from $75 to $150 per award ticket which has to be booked within 20 days of the departure date.   The much disputed 5-day strike called by the British Airways cabin crew has just ended to make way for another round of strike for the same tenure staring from Saturday. No negotiation has yet been reached in spite of repeated talks between both the sides. According to Unite, the carrier has already suffered a loss of ₤119 million threatening that the figure could go up to ₤1.4 billion as passengers may switch to other airlines. On the contrary, British Airways has declared that increased numbers of employees are revealing willingness to work as normal thereby forcing the carrier to raise its flying schedule during the upcoming strike session next week.
